Description
We are delighted to offer this rare antique silver plated revolving oval tureen ( breakfast dish ) from England. This lovely piece features a domed lid with a central oval vacant hand repousse cartouche chased with a scroll and floral design. When opened, it reveals a space for either a pierced tray, or glass plate, which is where blocks of butter would sit. The space below is for crushed ice to keep the butter fresh and chilled. This oval shaped server has a rolling dome top and stands on four elegant paw/lion feet. It is fully marked on the underside as well as on the handle. It dates to the late 1800s. This beautiful piece is missing its interior tray/plate. Though a bit tight as it rolls open, it is in very good gently used condition and is quite beautiful. It has a hot water compartment below the seated tray space. This lovely piece measures approximately 9” diameter x 5.25” high x 5.5” deep.We appreciate your careful review of the photos as they tell so much more than we can articulate; and ask that you zoom in for a closer look at any and all condition issues.
