Description
Offered is this round antique Victorian-style silverplate butter dish with a domed lid, made by Warner of Chicago. The base has two curved handles with a leaf design, also featuring an open circle with a cross. The lid has an etched leaf design including a heart-shaped pattern on each side, with a loop finial on the top. The company was in business from roughly 1894 through 1915.e it dates to the 1890s or the very early part of the 1900s to me. In addition to the company mark, the bottom is marked "444", apparently a pattern or item number. This may be a rare find; at the time of original listing I could not find any other round Poole silverplate butter dishes for sale on eBay.The piece is approx. 4" high and about 7 5/8" across the base, including the handles. Most of the piece is in good condition; the plating is mostly intact, with small patches of wear, mostly on the inside of the base. There are two manufactured holes on one side where there was probably originally a bracket to hold a butter knife. There is also a small hole in the bottom of the base, apparently as a result of corrosion over the years (see last photo). There is no glass insert.
